Ok, so this resort is not fancy. Not a huge vertical. Not a big name. Really not close to anything that is well known. All by itself, in a position to capture the easterly moving winter storms, to trap that white fluffy powder. MauiSkiBus spent two days here, observing the very clean lodge, well groomed trails, plenty of parking, and no lift lines. Please give my lungs a break. Why?
Moguls. Even though there were plenty of groomed fun runs, the mountain staff lets the skiers design moguls on their own. Open bowl moguls, tree studded slopes with moguls, and MauiSkiBus’s favorite, “Hollywood Alley”. Well the runs really were not named this, MauiSkiBus never stopped enough to remember the names of the runs under the chair, they are just called “Hollywood Alley” at all resorts. Any expert skier would burn their thighs on these runs and if you did not, the lack of a lift line, would not give much rest before you had to do it again. Thanks, Moguls of Monarch, MauiSkiBus did work some Maui thighs!
A very fun place to ski, varied terrain, and plenty of different runs for all abilities. Hike to the peak overlooking Milkwoods for double blacks, cruise to the skiers right ridge and see no one, or get on it for the cat skiing offered here. So a ski resort named Monarch does have a very well rounded feel. Still love those moguls. Try them, you might get a feel of a movie starr from Hollywood.
