MauiSkiBus likes to share what life is like sleeping at high elevation, say above 10,000 feet, in the winter, say -10 degrees, during a blizzard, say 50 miles per hour wind gust. Any takers? Say a 15 year old? Say a teenage texting girl? Say one that lives at sea level? Where the winter night average temperature is 50 degrees? My cousin’ daughter, from California, Maddie Bankosh was the taker.
Arapahoe Basin is a short drive from either Breckenridge, Frisco, or Silverthorne/Dillon, Colorado up Route 6, towards Loveland Pass. Once there and winter camping at 10,000 feet plus, -10 below, with 50 mph winds, it feels like a long way away from the warmth of a condo or any modern living. Cold temperatures are the enemy of diesel engines and Maddie had the 3am chore of starting MauiSkiBus, to keep the engine warm.
A-Basin for short, offers views of the continental divide, the spine of the Rocky Mts., where snow melting into water on one side, flows west, and the other side, flows east. Peaks here, too numerous to mention one more beautiful than another, surround this ski resort, with views to gasp at. Fear not beginners, as A-Basin has a plethora of beginner runs, criss-crossing between the extreme expert runs that so many locals love to rage about.
An experience can be found here at A-Basin, a resort without the parking distance of many bigger areas. To be able to have easy access to ones vehicle, even a yellow tropical bus from Maui, is a huge asset that A-Basin easily offers. Front row, prime view, the spot, yes Maddie experienced MauiSkiBus on a blustery night at a ski resort that feels so far away, however so close to the heart of Summit County, Colorado. Thank-you A-Basin, Colorado!
