The north shore of Kauai has cliffs that decend from the clouds to the sea, a sight that should not be seen only once. These red, orange, and green hued cliffs drop thousands and thousands of feet from the peaks hidden far above the sea. Near the base of these cliffs, is a trail that goes up and down and up and down over vertical spine ridges. This trail is called the Na Pali trail and is mostly an extreme hike. Backpackers take all day in the hot sun to transgress the eleven mile hike. MauiSkiBus has legs to do it in and out in one day. This is nothing compared to traveling around the world by hand and wheel.
Going from the peaks that can loop around mental corners, a man wheeled, with hands that were powered by a fall, a fall not from grace, but a fall towards the sun. And then the chair came to a place, a place high above the can of loop, where the green feline mastered the snow, above the peak, but far below the sun. MauiSkiBus arrived late at night, again, found the spot, and a bit of yellow was seen by a nance and a hanse, as in Nancy Green and Rick Hansen, two of Canada’s most popular athletes. A young unseen Chelsey wanted MauiSkiBus to moor on a different scheduled day to add some yellow to to the sun shining down on the 50th anniversary of these peaks.
A simple bit of a drive north from Kamloops, BC, is Sun Peaks Ski Resort, a northern feel of a Beaver Creek or Squaw Valley. The design of the lodge area is geared to walkers and skiers, as both have their paths throughout the village. An unwritten local motto hear is you won’t get married to Sun Peaks, however you may get engaged. Pride of this ski resort is here, as the locals love their slopes, decorate their own slope side Christmas trees, and plant spring time flowers to add some color to the heaps of white snow. Politicians do not need to campaign here, as the watchful eye of authority is administered from the mayor’s office, slopeside.
It was an honor for MauiSkiBus to be invited to Sun Peaks on a special occasion and an addtional honor was to ski with two ski patrollers, even helping one patroller when his binding broke. From a highly decorated female Canadian Olympian, a famous round-the-world wheelchair record holder, the actual real life mayor, and a broken down ski patroller, Sun Peaks, BC, enlightened MauiSkiBus to keep the focus on the importance of each correct turn.
