Hold Your Breath on the Steamboat Cush

MauiSkiBus likes to write in a creative manner, in a way that the reader is captivated to read the next paragraph, and the next, and the next. A business that is creative, may find a consumer that wants more and more and more. So it is in a cowboy ski town, made famous by an Olympian skiing cowboy. One that skied with MauiSkiBus in 2012, the one and only ski cowboy character of Steamb0at Springs, Billy Kidd.

Steamboat Fitness, started as a sisters in charge small studio 13 years ago and now has room after room after room to dangle in, as in inverted yoga, sweat in, as in hot yoga, stretch in, as in the torture chamber of pilates, psycho in, as the spinning room, and converse in, as the warm welcome lobby, where the sisters papa Bink, may introduce himself. Wendy and Pam, Steamboat sisters, have a studio/fitness center that will attract and offer a various schedule of all above mentioned body enhancing exercises.

Humans were not born with shoes on and we often wear them too much, especially when it might be 10 degrees outside. Warm sand between toes, a walk in the morning on the beach, is a delight that many in the snow zone dream about. A warm soft cushy yoga studio floor can be found at Steamboat Fitness, a floor that MauiSkiBus rates with high accolades. Becky, the observant instructor, gave MauiSkiBus a little extra push on the tush, knowing that the pay backs are what brings all back for more. Right on ladies, sisters, keep this up and another room will need to be added, as your customers will want more and more and more.

Up Against the Hot Vail Wall

Yoga was created way, way back, and lets not go back that far. It is now evolving and will evolve more into the future, as more and more is being found out about the human body and really more about the complex human mind. MauiSkiBus has been hanging around, more so hanging upside down for over thirty years. Like really hanging, from chin-up bars, on squat rack bars, in playgrounds,  from bowsprits of famous sailing schooners, and even at the top of a 40 foot sailboat mast with no safety harness or net. This may not be considered yoga, or is it? Stretching in a controlled manner, elongating the spine to counter the downward pull of gravity, releasing built up tension, that often sisters with stress, can all be forms of yoga. So can standing up against the wall at Vail Hot Yoga.

Ame, sounding like Amy, is the structure evolving teacher, one to elongate the spine, with unique exercises up against the wall, while 93 degrees of tension releasing mountain elevation air surrounds, to loosen all joints at Vail Hot Yoga. Ame is not new to the practice of yoga, she is new to taking the yoga poses created in the past, evolving them to another level for the future. MauiSkiBus really loved this open creativeness, the courage to do new, with experienced confidence from her past.

A clean body will sweat clean and hot yoga will for sure make one sweat. MauiSkiBus has right out its home base backdoor on Maui, some really intense 2,000 foot vertical mountain bike climbs. With the Maui sun beating down, a heart rate approaching 170 beats per minute, sweat pours out of open pores, carrying body toxins to evaporate away. Vail Hot Yoga gave MauiSkiBus a similar feel, a feeling that all should embrace, even in the angst of hating the heat and poses Ame has created. Vail Hot Yoga offers a shower, post class, and MauiSkiBus encourages all to finish with a mountain cold burst of water, a cold so envigorating, life will return ten fold to cleanse your inner core.

Gearing High for Yoga

When most businesses are closed, there is no revenue source. 9 to 5 = 8 hours, hence 16 hours of wasted space and time, in a 24 hour day. How does a bike shop, in Avon, Colorado, use unused space and time? Move the bikes on display to the side, revealing a beautiful wooden floor, mop said floor, and roll out the carpet, in the form of mats, and turn a bike shop into a yoga studio. Invite the community to a donation payment class, recruit a top notch instructor, and fill the room up successfully. Yoga in a high end bike shop!

Avon, Colorado, sits at the entrance to Beaver Creek, one of the most luxurious ski destinations in the world. In fact the world came here, in the form of the Alpine World Championships skiing races. Second only to the Olympics, MauiSkiBus was able to be part of the grandstand entertainment/video production. High Gear Cyclery is in the heart of Avon, owned by Paul Previtali, the master mind of yoga in a bike shop. Ms. In Your Element Kim, opened cycling hips, IT bands, and deep rooted tendons, as bikes fit for Tour de France cyclist, hung from the walls. Sorry Buddah, these bikes are for real cyclists, and this class is for all cyclists.

MauiSkiBus was very impressed with this idea, the comfort of the shop/studio, and the level of class taught, open to all that wish to partake.  Ideas are the start of a trend, hopefully more and more shops open there down time to this shop/studio yoga combination. Bravo for all that started this and for all that will continue to keep this alive.

Dancing Dog Singing Ma

Principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true. This is the meaning of dogma. Think and know. One can be on the way to the other, the second is fact.  MauiSkiBus, without ever knowing that the word “dogma” existed, follows this definition, avoiding the excessive “think” state of living. Souls that are doers do, ones that exist, watch. Get on down to a downward dog and have your instructor sing to you there.

Top notch athletes do a multitude of cross training, knowing that injuries can be the demise of a season or even worse, a career. Josiah Middaugh, of Avon, Colorado, is one of these athletes, teaching swimming at the Westin Riverfront and cycling at the Dogma Health Club. Yoga is also taught here, as is personal training, pilates, weight training, and Dogma even employs a singing ma, as instructor Jill is just that. Really, in the deep depth of a downward dog, vibrant Jill soothes it all away, while “on it” Samantha, greets those waiting to check in.

Dogma Athletica is situated off of Main St., not the Main St. of an old village, but the Main St. of a well thought out shopping village, in Edwards, Colorado. Yes, the instructor could sing on American Idol!

Even a Core has a Backdoor

Hi Steve,

Thank-you for reaching out. On behalf of Core Power yoga, we’re unfortunately going to decline the opportunity at the moment. Best,

Chandler

jpublicrelations.not

San Diego, not Colorado

Yahoo, yippee, celebrate, celebrate, MauiSkiBus received its first yoga studio decline. A bit of editing here in the decline letter sent  to MauiSkiBus, but wait there is more. This came through modern wifi, but look, there is a backdoor. See MauiSkiBus has Aloha karma a plenty, and it just so happens that a Maui, now Denver friend, Sir J. Hahn, has a fit n’ fun lady that knew that MauiSkiBus could fill in some electronic form and get a week of yoga for free. Silly to decline one class  for MauiSkiBus, but to offer a full week to others. If the front door is not open, MauiSkiBus is fine with the backdoor. Success, another studio on the way to 50 for the 2015 season! * And by the way, they are lucky number 13!

*This studio public relations was rated “terrible” in MauiSkiBus’s log book, because of marketing in-efficiency before visiting. The instructor and employees were rated an A after visiting.

What was, Samadhi is not.

Meat and potatoes. Eat your vegetables. Wheaties, breakfast of champions. Pesticides and herbicides. Cholesterol and heart attacks. Chicken or fish. Antibiotics and mercury. Organic and vegetarian. Triple by pass and transplants. Vegan and raw, now anti GMO. A trend is happening here, what was, in many cases, is not or is going out. One could sit back and ignore or when in Denver, visit a yoga studio that will for sure please. Heck, a thousand people attending classes per week can’t be all wrong, can they?

Denver’s Samadhi Center for Yoga, just a hop and skip from the capital building of Colorado, has three rooms that display soothing wall paintings, that Buddha himself would approve of. At times, three classes of different styles of yoga, are going on at the same time, providing a choice of plenty for all attendees. Can you see the pattern? Yoga became a name from hippies from the sixties, now it has gone mainstream, as business people from the hearts of any major city attend yoga classes. Nothing wrong with flower power, something very right about Samadhi Power.

Yoga in population centers, have now leaned to more of a business atmosphere, and every business that is growing needs a flower to oversee, such as a Lillie scented greeting for MauiSkiBus. Freedom is given to Lillie, by Ms. Annie, the master mind of Denver’s Samadhi Yoga. Really, three studios being once at the same time? Step out of the meat and potatoes mindset and walk with grace into any yoga studio. Times are a changing and Samadhi Denver proves that the trend will not stop, so you might as well hop on the yoga train and receive benefits that a thousand Coloradoans per week enjoy.

Change Happens, Use a Key to Unlock the Stone Door

Change happens. The only way to avoid it is the ostrich head in the sand trick. Skiing has had changes and more will come. For instance. Helmets. Now common, rumors spreading maybe mandatory. Where did the helmet idea come from? Snowboarders, as skiers of thirty years ago rarely wore them. With snowboarders came the half-pipe. Now skiers are starting to rule the pipe. What was freestyle, now is big mountain free skiing. Roughly an hour plus drive from Denver, is a ski resort that embraces change, is on it, and has one of the best terrain parks for skiers and snowboarders in all of North America, as they have used a key to open the stone door, Keystone, Colorado.

Only three resorts in North America stay away from snowboarders, not Keystone though. To be able to sit on any chair, at any resort, and see skiers and snowboarders flying high above you, like a soaring winter bird, is a rarity. The key has unlocked the terrain park at Keystone and lookers will marvel at what is now happening with winter rad tricks, ones that were not in existence thirty years ago. Thirty years in the future will have a new change, and the key to that stone door lives at Keystone.

Pound for pound one of the strongest mammals on Earth is the wolverine and a slope here is named for that strength. Perfectly spaced trees, on a perfect pitched slope, awaiting to catch the perfect winter powder storm, awaits the soul of any, just insert the key, and at the bottom you may feel stoned. An elusive animal is the wolverine and this Keystone slope has an elusive entrance. You will need to find the key to get in.

Keystone sits off to the side of the Vail Resort family of mountains, glistening above them all, as the elevation here reaches the highest of its sisters. A+ also is graded here, as Russell Carlton, a constantly on it marketing dude, has forward thinking, expecting change, knowing it will come. Denverites sneak here on route 6, bypassing Montezuma, a current relic of what used to be a mining town. Newcomers to Keystone should step up here or step into some skates on the ice rink. Not tired of stepping down slopes at sunset, keep stepping, as Keystone has terrific night skiing, the only resort holding the key to the lights of a winter night on the front range.

Prospecting for Yoga in Park City

Gold. Silver. Dreams of getting rich. Prospectors traveled to the mountains of the western USA to mine for gold and silver. Most lived a very hard life, worked long hours, and spent what money they made in saloons and brothels. Prospectors did not mine for gems, but Park City has a gem, in fact an upside down yoga studio owner gem named Lisa Needham. Post MauiSkiBusSteve doing a class at Park City Yoga, in Prospector Square, Lisa took the time to break some bread, share some stories, and entertain MauiSkiBusSteve with her vibrant personality. MauiSkiBusSteve showed prospector gem Lisa a different perspective of MauiSkiBus. Yoga has many forms of stretches and inverted ones are being initiated. MauiSkiBusSteve hung gem Lisa upside down in MauiSkiBus and shared some tropical ski bum stretches.

Park City Yoga has been in business for 13 years and many residents recommended this studio. Gem Lisa acknowledges everyone in her class and even personally introduces herself to newcomers. Starting any yoga class, one must have simple inner peace, as vairagya is shared here. This attitude has rewarded Park City Yoga with multiple business awards. For those searching, like the prospectors of the past, for gold or silver here in Park City, some disappointments may happen. Attending a class at Park City Yoga will reward all with a gem.

3+3 Mountains, 3 Circles, 1 Deer Valley

Does Rolex, Mercedes, St. Regis, or any high end luxury product or company need grass roots marketing? Millions and millions of dollars are spent promoting and advertising upper scale products, mainly to the consumer that can afford such products. So why would an upper end ski resort like MauiSkiBus and support MauiSkiBus, not once, not twice, but an invitation for a third visit?

Exposure. Social media posts. Photos shared. A smile from employees and guests. Positive water cooler talk. Giggles and comments. Part of the three rings of a great business success of companies continuing to improve on past successes. THE Deer Valley is one of the most respected names in the ski resort world and Emily, Ryan, and Coleen in the marketing department love MauiSkiBus, with a third invitation to visit.

MauiSkiBus arrived early to ski a resort made up of three mountains that support three more mountains and Franklin was a hit with the lot attendants. Israel Kamakawiwiole, RIP, one of THE most respected Hawaiian singers, entertained employees, as they briskly walked into Deer Valley, on MauiSkiBus’s outdoor speakers. Ryan shared gifts and his own cheerfulness, while MauiSkiBusSteve, local resident and Deer Valley mountain lover, Larra Murdock, and himself, enjoyed a custom prepared morning breakfast, in the Deer Valley Olympic room.

There is no doubt that Deer Valley attracts the upper end crowd that desires an upper end ski resort. Especially at the world famous Sundance Film Festival. Hollywood is everywhere here, as the St. Regis Deer Valley is sold out, rooms over $2000 nightly. MauiSkiBus sits softly parked below the St. Regis, expensive eyes peering down to the tropical yellow bus, amidst a sea of autos. Deer Valley does not set itself above the average consumer, Deer Valley cherishes all that desire to visit. A great future business model for a ski resort that has a past great reputation.

PCMR will be going under a new flag

Airlines. Remember TWA? Northwest? Aloha? Eastern? Continental? Braniff? There are hundreds of them. Just part of business and consolidation. Ski resorts are not immune to the same thing. Is bigger better? Some say yes, some detest change. One word used often on perfect powder days by snowboarders and skiers is epic. Epic is coming to PCMR, as in the Epic Pass from the Vail Family of Resorts for the Park City Mountain Resort.

Many ski resorts have honors that the locals skiers cherish with a sense of pride. Age of the resort, amount of snowfall, double black runs, famous skiers that grew up there, and the five rings. Only three ski destinations in the USA have the honor of the international five rings. Squaw Valley, Lake Placid, and the Park City resort area. Receiving a gold medallion from any Olympics is an honor and to receive one from your hometown hosting the Olympics steps up that honor.

Vail Resorts now owns PCMR, albeit in a bit of a controversial way, and MauiSkiBus has its own opinion on this. Traveling and skiing 104 resorts in 2012 sounds fantastic for anyone that loves skiing. On the flip side is the work behind the skiing and working with the Vail Resorts marketing departments was easy, getting an A+ grade from MauiSkiBus. Confidence from MauiSkiBus, sort of a ski resort sommelier, as over 100 plus marketing departments have been contacted by MauiSkiBus. One tasting over 100 similar wines might have a bit of credibility.

Ever so close to Park City is another recent addition to the Vail Resorts family, The Canyons, and Vail has big plans, to follow suit with what many European resorts have, an inter-resort chairlift system. Big, real big, is what the locals and tourists that visit the home of the 2002 Winter Olympics will have in a ski resort. PCMR, will hold hits name, always hold its history, also holding that Utah powder, named the Greatest Snow on Earth.
